The first breaching humpback whale!!!
When we left the harbour at 17:00 on board “Bjössi Sör” today, we had already spotted white-beaked dolphins, minke whales and harbour porpoises on our previous tours during the day.
We set the course towards the western part of the bay, where the minke whales have been seen earlier in the afternoon. But after about 30 minutes of sailing, we suddenly saw a huge splash in the distance – a jumping whale!!! We changed our course and as we got closer, we realized that it was a humpback whale that had been jumping several times. Unfortunately the whale had already stopped its jumping exercises as we arrived, but we got some really nice looks at the humpback whale as it was swimming really relaxed close to the surface, probably resting after the jumping activities.
We spend a while with this humpback whale, and as we were waiting for the whale to come up again, we spotted another blow, not that far away from us: Another humpback whale!
Also this humpback whale was really nice and we got to see its fluke very close to the boat as it went down for a deep dive.
Hopefully this tour was the start for another exciting humpback whale season! 🙂
