A Humpback Whale breaching for half an hour!
When we left the harbour at 10:00 onboard our boat “Bjössi Sör”, we did not know that this would become a tour to remember:
It started with at least three minke whales in the western part of the bay, feeding among hundreds of seabirds. As we were waiting for one of the minke whales to surface again, we saw a huge splash in the distance…..a jumping whale! We immediately changed our course and while we were slowly getting closer, we realized that this was a humpback whale!
A few minutes later we arrived in the area, but the humpback whale did not stop jumping…..he was breaching over and over, again and again, and during the next 30 minutes we counted at least 50 jumps!!!
After a while, the whale stopped his jumping activities and calmed down and it was also time for us to head back towards Húsavík harbour. But both crew and passengers agreed that this was definitely a tour to remember…..
