A unique Edge of the Arctic tour

Passengers and crew met on Monday evening on the 30^th of June on-board Schooner Hildur, got settled on the ship and discussed possible options for the tour ahead. The weather forecast was not optimal; due to strong winds that were expected from the east on Wednesday an alternative route had to be taken.

Early on Tuesday morning, Schooner Hildur left Húsavík harbour and headed for whale and bird watching in Skjálfandi Bay, visiting some of the main whale areas of the bay as well as Lundey (the Puffin Island). Then the course was set to Flatey (the Flat Island) where passengers and crew spent a couple of hours exploring the unspoiled nature and the fascinating birdlife the island has to offer.

The course was then set to the historical fishing town of Siglufjörður were the group explored the town and spent the night. On Wednesday the famous Herring Museum was visited before sails were set and headed back towards Húsavík.

It turned out that the weather forecast was spot on and the group experienced some strong winds from the east. For that reason, captain Hörður decided to sail to Dalvík in Eyjafjörður and drive from there to Húsavík.

Icelandic weather conditions can be very challenging at times and then it is important to have an alternative solution in order to maximize experience and comfort.

The passengers arrived in Húsavík satisfied after a unique Edge of the Arctic tour.
