Dolphins everywhere!
I have been guiding two trips onboard “Náttfari” today and on both tours we encountered the same two species: The humpback whales and the white-beaked dolphins.
On the first tour (at 11:00) we only got a short look at the dolphins but had some nice encounters with two humpback whales. Especially the second humpback whale was very nice to watch, as it spent a long time at the surface and on one occasion, it surfaced just within a few metres from our boat and lifted its tail before it went down for another dive.
On the second tour (at 15:00) we were impressed by the huge number of white-beaked dolphins we encountered throughout the tour: They were simply everywhere! And they were showing all kinds of dolphin behaviour: They were jumping out of the water and some of them were even approaching our boat and riding on the waves from our boat for a short while!
At the end of the tour, were just about to leave the area and start heading back to the harbour, we were even rewarded with two humpback whales lifting their majestic flukes into the air as they went for a dive!
