Mating in the bay!

We saw three different species during our tours the whole day. Two humpback whales, two minke whales and a super pod of white beaked dolphins mating in the north west part of the bay.

 Our tour on boat Knörinn at 16:00 brought passengers back to the port with big smiles on their faces. They were lucky to experience wildlife at the purest. The tour started with a breaching (jumping) humpback joined just few minutes later by another one we spotted before in a far distance. They were swimming and diving together a little while, and one approached the boat so close before leaving, that the passengers got a good look at the anatomy of the whale, and that it was impossible to take a picture of the whole body. 

But the best was to come. We saw splashes in the distance and headed towards white beaked dolphins.They were individuals from different families surfacing fast in all directions all around the boat very close and far. Big and young males jumped and made summer salts (a sign of being in the mood for sex), in order to impress each other or court females, but also compete with each other. They fought bodies to bodies, pushing one another down the surface by jumping on each other, and tail slapping aggressively. They were chasing females sometimes quite violently, following them upside down under the females’ bodies, that we could see their white bellies up, copulating for two seconds repetedly and caressing next to the boat. 
That was amazing to see, better in real than on television. 
Dolphins are known to enjoy sex as much as we do.
