Perfect day!!!!
What a day was today! Everything seemed to be perfect. It was very calm, a bit cloudy (so no glare!) and unusual warm. The visibility was even good enough to see Grímsey, the island located at the Arctic Circle. Best conditions to spot the whales!
And it didn’t take us too long to find them. Just in the middle of the bay we encountered a humpback whale. The animal was very calm and we got some very close looks at it. We could also see the long white flippers underneath the sea surface.
Just a bit further north another humpback whale surfaced and we also spent some time with this individual and since the sea was completely calm we could clearly hear the animal breathing.
In the afternoon we encountered both humpback whales again and suddenly one of them breached right next to us! That was a surprise! It jumped completely out of the water! On our way back we also spotted two minke whales, which were heading north.
And in the evening we spotted even three humpback whales, which surfaced close to each other. One of them was again very entertaining and waved with its long white flippers.
Wish every day would be like that! 🙂
