The day of the minke whales
The weather is still incredible! Hard to believe that it is already mid-September, it’s still sunny, unusual warm and today the sea was very calm, so wonderful conditions again.
It didn’t take us too long to find the animals. We spotted a minke whale and sailed slowly into the area, where we spotted the animal. But suddenly the whale surfaced right next to us. We stopped the boat and the minke whale continued swimming around us. it turned on its side, looking at us and seemed to be very curious! We could clearly see the long, torpedoshaped body of the animal and the characteristic white bands around its pectoral fins.
We got some incredible looks at the individual, before we sailed further west. We spotted at least three or four more minke whales and where already on the way back when we saw a very big blow arising from the sea suface, very far away. We got the proof in the afternoon, that there was indeed a humpback whale in the bay! Great to see this large species again, since they seemed to stay further out during the previous weeks. But also in the afternoon the minke whales dominated our tours.
