Time to say goodbye
Similar to the last couple of days the weather today reminded of summer instead of autumn. It was sunny and pretty warm and the sea flat as a mirror.
We sailed north in direction of the open sea, since other boats already checked out the western part of the bay without being successful.
Suddenly we spotted a black, pointy dorsal fin surfacing in front of us. And then a second and a third one and we were sure: That was definitely a group of white beaked dolphins! We approached them carefully and they seemed to be very interested in us! Suddenly they turned and came towards us. They started bow-riding and turned on their side to have a good look at us. Other individuals entertained us with their wonderful breaching behavior and the further we sailed the more dolphins we spotted. The bay seemed to be full of them, it was obviously a meeting between several smaller groups, forming a so-called ‘superpod’. It was hard to decide where to head first, actually we didn’t really move the boat anymore, the animals just approached us!
In the afternoon we encountered the dolphins again, although it was a smaller pod this time. After some time with the group we headed further west and were lucky enough to come across a minke whale, which was busy feeding in the area.
Once again a wonderful whale watching day – and actually my last day on sea for this season. I had a wonderful summer with incredible whale encounters and every day was a new and exciting adventure. Every tour was different and it was always worth going out. The nature itself and the fascinating whales are definitely one of the most exciting things the world has to offer!
