Lots of Dolphins and a Minke Whale….
I have been sailing on two trips onboard “Bjössi Sör” with captain Hreiðar today and even though searching a big area in the morning, we unfortunately did not find any whales or dolphins on our first tour, so we offered our passengers to join us again for free whenever they would be back in Húsavík.
But on our second trip we were much more successful! It did not take long until we spotted a very nice minke whale in the eastern part of the bay. We got some really nice and close-up looks at the minke whale and decided to sail further out, keep on searching for more.
After sailing for a little while, we came across a small group of white-beaked dolphins. They were really interested in our boat and also started to bow-ride on the waves from our boat.
As we left the dolphins, we saw some more splashes in the direction of the mountains and as we got closer, we were soon surrounded by dolphins! We were in the middle of a really big group of them and they were jumping out of the water, swimming under the boat and giving us a really great show!
So today showed us again that things can easily change within a few hours and that it is always worth to go out a second time (especially if the first time was not really successful….).
