Breaching, fluke-slapping, and some nasty-jokers among whales today
What a delightful day on Garðar today! The weather was sunny and beautiful and the skies so clear, in total contrast to the gloomy yesterday. And just as the people who had come a long way to see them, and us lucky few that get to work with them on daily, the whales seemed to be in a better mood in all the sunshine and decided to fool around. In the morning we had two good Humpback Whales, each of which performed some of the most special things a whale could do, breach clear out of the water and slap the fins on the surface. Finally a Blue Whale was seen for a while but if it was the same one as we then saw on the afternoon tour, it had calmed down and was seen better. Then it seemed to be in a bit of mood to shock us as in about the second or third time that we were around, the gigantic whale actually appeared on the surface virtually next to us and our hearts went down our paints as it blew! What a shocker! The interesting bit was that the Humpback Whale that we went to see after this Blue Whale did the very same! The sunshine really brings out the joy and delight in everyone but it would seem the longing to fool around too!
