SUMMER!!!!!!!
It’s hard to believe – but it seems the summer finally reched Iceland! Today was one of those days you wish they would never end. The sky bright blue, the sea reminded a bit of the Caribbean and the mountains in the western part of Skjálfandi Bay gave us a stunning sight.
The sailing itself was already so enjoyable. The sea was pretty calm, although the wind from the north was a bit chilly, to be honest – that’s why we still prefer hot chocolate instead of icecream on our tours…
But of course the highlights were again the animals. In the morning we encountered two humpback whales, that were busy feeding in the southwestern part of the bay. They surfaced a lot, always followed by a flock of hungry arctic terns. Suddenly some dark, pointy dorsal fins surfaced in front of us: a group of white beaked dolphins! They were very relaxed and we could follow there track for quite some time.
The afternoon was successful as well. We spotted three humpback whales and came very close to two of them. One individual seemed to be in a very playful mood and started tailslapping, which is always great to watch. Let’s hope the weather will last for some time, this is how we love the Icelandic summer!
