Two of the biggest whale species spotted in Skjálfandi Bay today
The weather is still at its best- light breeze from the south, the temperature is warm and the sun is shining.
This morning we headed out on one of our smallest boat, Knörrinn. It didn´t take long until we spotted a very big group of White Beaked Dolphins. They were playful as always, jumping around and surfacing close to the boat. After some good time with the dolphins we headed further north and there we were in for a treat! We spotted three of the mighty Blue Whales, the largest animals ever to have lived on earth. Two of them surfaced together right next to the boat. Words can not describe what it is like to see those enormous animals surface right next to our boat, which is 15 meters in length.
Later on we were lucky to spot a species that is not common to see around Skjálfandi Bay, the Fin Whale, which is the second largest whale species. The Fin Whale came up right next to the boat, so close that we could hear its breath. Amazing!
On our second tour we spotted two Humpback Whales, 3 big groups of White Beaked Dolphins and two Minke Whales.
A great day out on Skjálfandi Bay, with five different species spotted.
