Solar Eclipse Special a great success
Today, March 20th at 09:41 am, a Solar Eclipse of around 98% was viewable from North Iceland. This was the darkest Eclipse in Iceland for more then 60 years or since 1954. The next one of this magnitude is in the year 2026.

Being in the right place at the right time is everything when a Solar Eclipse occurs. Weather of course plays the biggest part and especially low clouds can totally block the event.

And so it happens that the passengers and crew aboard the sailing ship Hildur were the lucky few around Húsavík that got to view the whole eclipse, from beginning to end, and what a magnificent experience it was.

Out in the bay, captain Hörður and his crew found a spot where the sun and the Eclipse was visible the whole time, however up on land the clouds partially blocked the event. Even when everything went dark, Hildur´s sail was uplit out in the Bay.

The rest of the staff on land wasnt as lucky as the passengers and crew of sailing ship Hildur, but still managed to experience a good part of the Eclipse.
