Difficult conditions

Today was a rather difficult day for whale watching:

We had a lot of snow and rain and quite strong northerly winds, meaning that we also got some swell at sea.

But despite the bad weather conditions we were of course, like always, optimistic to find some whales.

We were searching in a big area (first in the north-western part of the bay, later in the west, close to the mountains), but we only came across a small group of harbour porpoises.

There was a lot of life close to the mountains (especially close to the Fish Rock or “Fiskisker”), so we got to see many different species of seabirds, including gannets, fulmars, puffins, guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes.

Also on the depth finder in the wheelhouse we saw that there was a lot of food in the area, so we were surprised not to find a minke or humpback whale there.

But unfortunately no luck this time, so we offered our passengers another free tour whenever they are back in Húsavík.
