Waving humpback whale
Today was a wery good day. We finally got more sun shining and the waves were really nice and friendly.
Our 4 hour whale, puffin and sail tour (NS 2) started at 9:30 on Haukur, our smallest 2 mast schooner. We went to Puffin island and got really good view of the little friends of ours. Then we took the course more south west in the bay. But we had heard a rumour that in that area was a minke whale, white beaked dolphins and a humpback whale.
Our passengers did not see the dolphins and minke whale but we got a wery good view on the humpback whale. Then it was time to head back to Húsavík but we decided to wait a little longer. And that was so worth it. Next time he came opp he was rolling around, waving his flippers and making a really fantastic unexpected show for us. We turned of the engine in a hope he would come closer to us, and he did. Rolled a whole circle at our port side so we could see his belly and his flippers close upp, took a short dive under our bowsprit, came upp to breath at our front starboard side and went for his deep dive raising his fluke high and gracefully.
I was to amased to run back to get my camera. So I sadly don‘t have any pictures of that beautiful sighting.
Puffins next to Puffin island.
All sails upp on Haukur in the beautiful weather.
