The Clouds Have Lifted
After several days of cloudy weather which had obscured Víknafjöll, we finally got a good look at the mountains today. They always make the bay feel somewhat smaller, but more majestic.
The North Atlantic was calm as glass on the way to Lundey, and the sun shone in all its glory. The puffins too seemed to be enjoying the change of weather, and sat sunbathing in front of their burrows. At Lundey we saw a proud eider duck mother promenading along the shoreline of Lundey with no less than eleven ducklings!
By the time we left Lundey we had a little wind, and happily set up the schooner sail and the main sail, and off we went, in search of whales. It took a little time, but was well worth it in the end. We found a very curious humpback whale which followed us around for some time, and came quite close. We also got a chance to see a breaching humpback at some distance, a less common treat.
Yet another beautiful day on Skjalfandi Bay.
