Jumping Humpback Whales
The weather on this morning was a bit rough as we were going out into the bay. After some driving we found ourselves in the presence of two humpback whales which were surfacing together as well as diving right after each other. It was a pleasure to watch them, especially when they were swimming towards the boat. While these animals seemed to have a look at the boat a third humpback whale sneaked up on us, which meant we had 3 whales close to the boat at this point. They gave us a nice show that included a breach as well as tail-slapping. In the afternoon we found all three animals again, but decided to stick with the ones travelling together. This decision was rewarded as we had both of these amazing creatures jumping out of the water several times. One breach was as close as 10 meters away from the boat. Just before we had to go back home to Húsavík one of the animals was throwing its tail out of the water several times. Today even our seasick passengers left the boat with a smile.
