Autumn colors
All through the summer, we have seen the Bay transform into a number of colors: Víknarfjöll started the season completely white with snow in May, changing to black as the snow melted, slowly becoming greener in June and July as the Icelandic spring set in. Now streaks of red and orange cover these beautiful mountains, and snow is beginning to dust their peaks. It was out into this beautiful scenery that we headed in search of some whales. Indeed, these mountains not only fascinate us, but are also a common area to find the whales, and today they did not disappoint. Three nice Humpback Whales surfaced all around us, sometimes coming very near, giving us a beautiful view.
Our colleagues on Náttfari were also lucky enough to see one of the rarer visitors in the Bay: some Pilot whales! Just outside the harbour, a group of 10 or 15 of them were a special sight to see for some of our passengers. Just goes to show, you can never know what it out there!
