Hildur starts heading home!
Hildur has departed Denmark, where it has been stationed for renovation as a schooner for the last 10 months, or since september 2009, and is finally heading home. Hildur was primarily stationed in Egernsund where most of the work was carried out and it was made seaworthy in its new form, but was also sailed the short distance to Flensburg in Germany in May this year. That was for the sailing festival Rumregatta, which Hildur attended, making it the first Icelandic schooner to do so, albeit without any sails. The delivery of the sails had been delayed, but in other aspects the boat was mostly ready. Once the sails had arrived and been fitted, it was taken out for a testrun, in which it performed admirably.
Thus, this past Friday the 9th of July, it left harbor, and sailed up past the eastern coast of Denmark. As this is written, Hildur is now on the way, and if all goes as planned it should be in harbour sometime next weekend. Here below are some pictures of Hildur as it was starting to head out, and on the way past Denmark.

After looking at the beautiful pictures of Hildur in it’s present state, it’s amazing to see how it’s changed, but here you can see what it looked like the very day it was heading out of Húsavík harbour last year!
