North Sailing is in the TOP 10 for Europe’s largest environmental and business prize
North Sailing is in the top 10 group for Europe’s largest environmental- and business prize, the GreenTec Awards, in the Travel Category. “This is a great honour for us and an acknowledgement of the environmentally friendly path we have embarked upon,” says North Sailing’s General Manager, Guðbjartur Ellert Jónsson.
North Sailing is the world’s first whale watching company that offers carbon-free whale watching tours. The company has, in company with others, developed a unique plug-in hybrid-electric propulsion system enabling them to operate the schooner Opal without either noise or carbon fuel. “For us, being chosen among the top ten is something akin to being nominated for the Oscars, and at the same time we are very pleased that it raises awareness of Iceland as an environmentally friendly travel option.”
Vote online now!
The online voting has now begun, where the public is invited to choose among the top ten projects selected in each category. The project that wins the on-line voting becomes one of the three final nominees, from which a jury will later select the winner. North Sailing is selected in the Travel Category. “We would greatly appreciate your support by voting online on www.greentec-awards.com.”
North Sailing’s Opal attracts global attention
North Sailing has garnered much attention both in Iceland and abroad, and recently won the silver at the prestigious World Responsible Tourism Awards 2015 at the World Travel Market in London. “It was a great honour to receive the awards. We have sensed a very positive response to our project, both abroad and here in Iceland, and were very happy to receive the Environmental Awards 2015 from the Icelandic Tourist Board as well as being picked the company of the year by our peers in the tourism sector in the North of Iceland,” says Jónsson.
