5 Blue Whales in Húsavík: See the Biggest Animal on Earth!
It’s always spectacular when a Blue whale enters the bay. It is, after all, the largest animal on Earth. However, earlier this week was simply unreal. Not one, and not two, but a staggering number of at least five Blue whales were spotted in Húsavík!
We’re always delighted to welcome to largest animal on Earth to our Bay. Spotting a Blue whale is amazing, but five Blue whales in the same tour is extraordinary. Words cannot describe the feeling when five of the world’s largest animals come up for air, gracing us with their presence. 25 meters of sheer beauty. It’s not something you see every day, and definitely one to remember!

Húsavík – The Whale Capital of Iceland & The Home of the Blue Whale!
Spotting Blue whales in Húsavík isn’t that abnormal, as Húsavík is the Home of the Blue whales after all. Being the Whale Capital of Iceland, here you can spot over 20 whale species – more than anywhere else in Iceland.
The fauna of the Húsavík area in North Iceland revolves mostly around whales. Although migratory, whales can be spotted in Húsavík all year round now. Which is why you can go whale watching almost every day of the year.
Similar to the famous Forrest Gump quote, whale watching is also like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re gonna get! One day you’re spotting Humpback whales and the next there are Blue whales, Sperm Whales, or Pilot Whales all around. That’s the beauty of the whale watching in Húsavík – the variety of chocolates is so much that you never know what you’re gonna get! It’s not always the same tiring dark chocolate and mint patty. You might end up getting a caramel filled chocolate or chocolate with sea salted almonds!

The Mighty Blue Whale Taking a Dive
Diving Blue whales are a quite rare sight in Húsavík. They spend most of their time at depth and are more commonly seen surfacing and blowing. Therefore, diving Blue whales and the Blue whale’s fluke in particular aren’t frequently spotted.
This footage, however, captured by Nick Bondarev, shows the mighty Blue whale diving in Húsavík, almost lifting its fluke.
