Different generations enjoy whale watching
Today we had good weather on sea and the whale sightings where equally good. In total 3 humpbacks, 3 minke whales, a few harbour porpoises and 1 seal was sighted.
On board were 42 passengers from various countries, e.g. Denmark, UK, France, Poland, Germany, and Iceland. Among the Icelanders where 14 residents of the retirement home ‘Hvammur’ in Húsavík and two staff members from there.
It has been planed for a while to invite the residents from ‘Hvammur’ to sail with North Sailing and today was the ideal day, with calm weather and a bay full of whales. It was also the 86th birthday of one of the residents, Thournn Gudmundsdottir. Thorunn has followed the development of North Sailing from the beginning as she’s Hordur´s (general manager) mother in-law of. Thorunn has contributed to the company by knitting hundreds of woolly mittens that keep passengers warm when it’s cold out on the bay.
The elderly enjoyed the trip, the weather, and the stunning view of the mountains of Kinn, with snow-covered peeks.
On board, the crew found out that another passenger was celebrating his 60th birthday.
We can therefore say for sure the this tour was a success and hope that the residents at ‘Hvammur’ and other passengers will have pleasant memories from this day.
A few gentlemen from ‘Hvammur’ await the departure outside of Gamli Baukur.
During the trip minke whales were seen. Here is one along with feeding Kittiwakes.
Three humpbacks were seen on the trip. Here the humpback lifts its fluke and takes a deep dive.
Passengers return, from a very successful trip, smiling away.
