“Truly a unique experience!”
Recently Schooner Haukur undertook a three day voyage around the islands and fjords of North Island. Among other places, the herring era town of Siglufjörður and the Island of Grímsey on the arctic circle were visited.
This trip will be on schedule in the spring time and upon request also late August and September but the experience seemed to be well received by the 5 passengers.
A couple from Holland, a couple from the USA and an icelandic journalist signed up for this first trip and the crew consisted of 3 experienced North Sailing people: Árni Sigurbjarnarson, Einar Ófeigur Magnússon and Nils B. Hailer.
The best way to describe this successful trip would probably be to retrieve comments from the ships logbook where passengers wrote their comments.

On the first day, the first stop was at Flatey Island but it is a nice experience to walk around this island that was deserted in 1968.

In Siglufjörður the amazing Herring era museum was visited and the curator of the museum, Örlygur Kristfinnson, guided them around. Everyone had the chance to taste herring and Icelandic schnapps, brennivin upon arrival.
Nils was responsible for the cooking and didn´t fail.
