Rebuilding the old fishing boats
The first reason North Sailing’s owners bought Knörrinn, the first boat, was the preservation of old Icelandic fishing vessels; many of which lay rotting in harbours all around Iceland. As beautiful as the boats look today most of them were in bad condition when North Sailing bought them and it took a lot of work to make them suitable for sailing with passengers. Years of fishing had taken their toll and some of the boats had been out of service for some years without any servicing. The rebuilding the boats can take a lot of time and work but the results have so far been absolutely stunning and the boats are one of the best things about the North Sailing experience. The hard work has paid off.

The forecastle had to go as it makes it harder for the captain to see what is ahead; especially when it would have been crowded.
To make sure that the deck doesn’t leak tar is put in the spaces between the boards.
