Eruption in Icelandic volcano

Iceland’s most active volcano Grimsvotn has erupted, sending a plume of white ash 18,000 feet into the air. The volcano lies under the Vatnajokull glacier in southeast Iceland, an area which is uninhabited.

This eruption comes just one year after the Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted, sending a cloud of ash over Europe that impeded air travel.

Iceland is 103.000 km2 and the eruption affects only a relatively small area around the volcano. Húsavík is situated on the north coast of Iceland but the volcano lies under a glacier in southeast Iceland and therefore poses no threat to our operation.
