5 minke whales, 2 humpback whales
Me and Halla Marín went on both trips today with captain Hrólfur. It was the first day of this season for our boat Bjössi Sör which has been undergoing maintenance. On the morning tour we spotted our humpback whale friend Jonni and then we went to the place where we saw the minke whale and other humpback whales yesterday but din't see anything. It was also getting quite foggy at the time so we just went to Puffin Island and saw thousands of puffins.
On the second tour we saw Jonni again and close to him there was one minke whale but we didn't actually see it more than two or three times as it was travelling a lo. But then we took our chances and went to the western part of the bay and that paid off because quite close to the mountains we counted I think four minke whales and another humpback whale. One of the two we saw yesterday. It came really close to the boat a few times and just when we were leaving it to head back to Húsavik it breached once right next the boat! So despite the cold north wind we had today it was a great day, especially the afternoon trip.
