Whale party this weekend !

Today has been great here in Skjálfandi Bay! There are whales basically all over the bay, everywhere I looked I could see blows, black backs or flukes… a real party! 

I went on two tours today and in the first one we came across two humpback whales that were swimming side by side and they were also very calm, just surfacing and when they went down for a dive it usually didn't last long and they came up straight away. You can't get a better show from humpbacks I think! 

In the second tour we managed to find the two humpback friends again and got to spend some time with them, they came extremely close to the boat and waved the flippers and were rolling over just under the surface, probably some exercises they were doing haha! 

On this tour we also saw a large group of dolphins and some of them were jumping occasionally which is always a nice way to end a tour.

BUT, it didn't end there… on the way back we saw a whale that I have never seen before, that's always a good feeling and I get sooo excited!! This was a fin whale and was really happy to be able to put that specie on my Have seen-list.

Even though we only got a glimpse of the fin whale…we did see it!  🙂
