North Sailing supports the Húsavík rescue squad with a 3-year partnership agreement
Last week, Stefán Jón Sigurgeirsson, the General Manager of North Sailing, and Birgir Mikaelsson, president of the Húsavík rescue squad Garðar, signed a 3-year partnership agreement that includes financial support from North Sailing.
Supporting local community
With this agreement, North Sailing aims to support the vital work that Garðar is doing for the local community. The funds have been allocated towards a new search and rescue boat, which will enhance the efficiency of the rescue service and reduce response times in Skjálfandi Bay, increasing safety for all visitors.
Annual rescue training
In addition, North Sailing and Garðar have committed to joint rescue drills twice a year for safety and training purposes, ensuring coordination and efficient communication across teams when responding to incidents.
Increasing safety for all visitors in Skjálfandi Bay
“We are proud to be able to support this important purchase of a new search and rescue boat and for being a part of making that happen. A new and powerful boat will enhance safety for everyone visiting Skjálfandi Bay, including our passengers and crew. We are very excited to strengthen our bond with the rescue squad, and we believe it’s a great starting point for future collaborative safety drills and exercises. I want to congratulate the squad on the new boat.” says Stefán Jón Sigurgeirsson, General Manager of North Sailing.
“We are grateful for this agreement with North Sailing and their support on this purchase. This is an exciting turning point in the squad’s collaboration with North Sailing, and we look forward to strengthening it even further,” says Birgir Mikaelsson, president of the rescue squad Garðar.
