Vilborg about to reach the South Pole
We bring you more news from the South Pole where our friend and colleague Vilborg Arna takes on the last kilometres to attain her goal. She estimates that it will only take her two more days.
The journey has taken her 58 days so far; five days ago she had reached 1000 km and a few days earlier she crossed the 88th latitude. The journey has turned out mostly as planned although it has taken her a few days longer than she originally estimated and therefore she got low on food supplies and was sent additional food about a week ago. Many people have supported and watched Vilborg and she is regularly featured on national news.
She says that she is looking forward to coming home, although she states that the glacier has also started to feel a bit homey.
Her blog in English and Icelandic can be found at www.lifsspor.is – but with her journey she is raising donations for Líf, a Charity Foundation that aims at supporting and strengthening services for women who suffer from breast cancer, gynecological malignancies or during pregnancy.
