Bad weather but three species
This morning the weather was quite bad and the sea was really rough. I went out on Garðar with captain Einar, Deckhands Ísak and Teresa and engineer Jóhann. The whales had been on the other side of the bay the last few days so we had to head all the way over there. The sea was really rough so some people got seasick and the deckhands had their hands full helping these people, giving them napkins and water. When we got over the bay we found a minke whale. We followed that around for a while and then we ran into some white beaked dolphins. Everybody had already got a good look at the minke whale so we decided to follow the dolphins. After everybody had got a good look at the dolphins we headed further south to see if we could find something more to look at. As we sailed we ran into some harbour porpoises, they tend to run away from the boats so we didn’t approach but admired them from afar. We then ran into another minke whale that we got quite close to before we had to head back to the harbour. Despite the weather and the rough seas the tour was really good.
