Great sightings of a feeding Minke
Although being the end of summer we are still lucky and the whales always manage to surprise us. The second tour today, at 13.30h, with Christian and Hrólfur as crew, didn‘t start off very well.
in the morning tou they managed to find a Minke Whale, but this time it was a bit more difficult to find the whales.
It was 15.30 and the we were still without sightings when suddenly the passengers and the crew saw again the same Minke Whale as this morning, but this time, the sighting was really amazing. At first the crew saw a dark area in the water, formed by a school of fish, and a dark silhouette under the fishes. Then, everybody could see how the whale came up to the surface with the mouth open, swallowing a lot of water and fish.
After that, we saw the Minke Whale a few times extremely close to the boat, swimming slowly and relaxed.
It was a great tour, something to be remembered.
Following are some pictures taken during the trip.

The Minke whale surfacing underneath the school of fish
Here we can see clearly the so called grooves, the folds of skin on the whales underside that allow the mouth to expand emmensely when feeding.
And rolling over, satisfied with the catch!
