Three species!
This morning we had an excellent tour on Bjössi Sör, me and captain Hrólfur with 16 passengers. It was snowing a little bit when we left the harbor and it increased as we got further out in the bay but, fortunately, it stopped after about half an hour.
We saw a group of white-beaked dolphins in the middle of the bay and managed to see them quite well, but they disappeared as quickly as they appeared in the first place.
It was good that we came across these dolphins because when we were wondering where they had gone to we spotted a blow in the south, something we probably wouldn’t have seen if we hadn’t been following the dolphins!
It was a humpback whale blowing and it was really, really relaxed and surfaced once at a time, at first, but then it started to come up more frequently and we saw it very close to the boat a few times.
When we were watching the humpback I saw a minke whale surfacing a bit further away but we didn’t try to get closer. So the minke must have decided to approach us instead because it came up all of a sudden quite close to the boat.
All in all, 3 species of marine mammals on the morning tour. Right now, Christian and Hrólfur are out in the afternoon tour and hopefully they are having a good tour as well!
