Absolutely amazing day at sea
Today was my first trip after a short vacation and it was spectacular. At first we had some minor technical difficulties with Náttfari(a fuse that needed to be replaced I was told) but that was quickly taken care of by our skilled crew and we were on our way into the bay. As we were sailing towards the are of the bay where the whales have been spotted the last week or so we ran into some white-beaked dolphins. The dolphins were not particularly playful so we quickly resumed on our trip across the bay. When we got to the area we quickly located a humpback whale that was very active, feeding at the surface so that we could see it’s extended mouth. After watching this for a while we headed a little further out to take a look at a blue whale our schooner Haukur had located earlier. Once we got to the blue whale we noticed it had a tendancy to fluke, something that is quite uncommon with the blues, which was amazing to see. We stayed with the blue whale for quite a while and managed to get very close to it so everyone could hear the incredible sound it makes when it breathes. We were little late coming back to the harbour but this was one of the most amizing tours of my 3 years working as a whale watching guide.
