Breaching minke whale
Today started a little problematically because of the Sail Húsavík festival that is going on these days. There are so many boats in the harbour that the boat I was going out on had to go to another place in the harbour than usually and there was some problem getting people off and on board. We headed out a little late because of this but determined to do our best to find something worthwhile to show the passengers. At first we were having quite a hard time. We ran into some harbour porpoises but they disappeared quickly as they are wont to do. We finally managed to find quite a big minke whale and where showing the passengers this whale when I noticed a huge splash not very far from the boat. We quickly lost interest in the whale we were watching and headed in the direction of the splash when it happened again. This time we saw that it was a minke whale that was breaching, jumping out of the water, and landing with a splash. It did this a few more times as we were sailing towards it but after a few times it stopped. We managed to find it and followed it around for a while but it had ceased it’s breaching. We headed back to the harbour with some really satisfied passengers after a three hour tour.
