Three species today

We left the harbour at 10:00 and set the course towards Lundey, the puffin island. South-west of the island, we had a really nice encounter with a group of about 8-10 white-beaked dolphins. We enjoyed the dolphins for a while, before we took a closer look at Lundey. Close to Lundey, we saw thousands of puffins sitting at the surface, and also some other birds were around (eider ducks, fulmars, kittiwakes, a cormorant and also some geese passing by).

We sailed further out, hoping to find some more marine mammals, and were rewarded with a gannet (the largest seabird in the North Atlantic) and a small group of harbour porpoises.

The afternoon tour started also with a small detour to Lundey and after some nice birdwatching, we sailed further west, towards the mountains. Quite close to Skerið (the “fish rock”) we encountered a minke whale and even though it was a bit difficult to follow this individual, everybody onboard could see it and it was of course very nice to see the minke whale back again in Skjálfandi Bay.
