Perfect whale watching in beautiful weather
Today was absolutely beautiful here in Skjálfandi Bay, both the morning and the afternoon tour were absolutely wonderful!
In the morning we went out with two boats, “Náttfari” and “Bjössi Sör” in perfect weather conditions and it didn’t take us long to find our first whale: a humpback whale! He (or she?) was swimming very slowly close to the surface and we had the impression that this whale was maybe sleeping (or at least resting). After a while we left this humpback whale and sailed further north-west and again, only a few minutes later, we found a second humpback whale. This individual was also really calm, and we got it very close to the boat a few times.
We then sailed even further out into an area closer to the mountains and we were able to observe a third humpback whale very close-up a few times. There were even more humpbacks in the area (a little bit further out), but we didn’t have much time left so we started sailing back towards Húsavík. On the way back we ran into a very nice group of white-beaked dolphins and we arrived back in Húsavík with a lot of smiling faces.
The afternoon tour was pretty similar: Still fantastic weather, nice white-beaked dolphins and lots of humpback whales around. Two humpbacks were even swimming together and surfaced right next to our boat a few times.
All in all, two perfect tours in amazing weather conditions with lots of whales around.
Following are two pictures taken on today’s morning tour.
