The Blues are back!
Today was great. In the 10 o’clock trip we had a very close encounter with 3 Humpback Whales. They were so close to land that we had a lot of time to spare and took the detour to the Puffin Island, something we usually don’t do in the 3 hours trips. The Sail Boats on the other hand visit the Island in every trip, the 4 hours trip that is. Look for a trip called NS-2, Whales, Puffins and Sails if you want to visit the Puffins. A remarkable bird the Puffin.
The 13:30 trip was quite spectacular. After a quick sight of a Humpback Whale we sailed all the way west and that paid off for sure, 2 breaching Humpbacks side by side. Moments after this we had a report from Captain Heimir on Schooner Haukur: The Blue Whales are back! We have not seen them now for some time but now they are back. They were all right outside the harbour so we did set the course towards home early. And what a sight we got! The one we did get closest to was among the largest Blue Whales I have ever seen. Overwhelming sight.
The days just keep getting better.
