Minkes, dolphins and porpoises
We left the harbour at 10:00 onboard “Garðar” in beautiful weather conditions and set the course towards the puffin island Lundey, into an area where some minke whales were seen feeding yesterday.
But the first species that we spotted on the trip was a group of white-beaked dolphins, just north-west of Lundey. We followed the dolphins for a while and watched them while they were probably herding some fish together, before we decided to go into the area where the minke whales had been before.
And that paid off: we managed to find two minke whales feeding in between lots of seabirds.
On the second tour on Garðar (13:30) we didn’t find the minke whales again, but we managed to find three nice groups of white-beaked dolphins as well as some harbour porpoises.
