Humpbacks and Bottlenose Whales
We left the harbour this morning in very good weather conditions at 10:00 and set the course towards the area, where the humpback whales had been seen yesterday afternoon. But we didn’t have to sail as long as yesterday, as the humpbacks seem to have moved further into the bay now, which is of course good for us, as it allows us to spend a bit more time with them.
We spent quite a lot of time this morning with one very well-known humpback whale, an individual that had also been here in our bay last summer and that was also seen in Faxaflói Bay, close to Reykjavík, in January and February this year. We got some really nice close-up views of this humpback whale and after a while, we left him to sail a bit further west, hoping to find some other whales.
We were not successful closer to the mountains, but on our way back we came across the group of Northern Bottlenose Whales, that has been around here now for a couple of days.
During the afternoon tour we managed to find both species again, the Humpback Whale and the Northern Bottlenose Whales.
On some of our tours the Northern Bottlenose Whales have even been seen breaching quite close to the boat.
