Humpbacks playing the main role
The humpback whales are still playing the main role here in the bay, and today they have been seen on all our tours.
On the morning tour at 10:00 we set the course north-west, as we heard from “Bjössi Sör” (they went out at 8:50) about two very nice humpback whales, swimming together close to the mountains. But on the way to these humpback whales we suddenly saw a big splash: A jumping humpback whale!
Unfortunately this humpback whale didn’t jump again, but when we went there, it became clear that there was also a nice group of white-beaked dolphins around.
This humpback whale was taking very short and shallow dives, probably feeding close to the surface.
We spent some time watching him (or her?), before we took a good look at the other two humpback whales further out.
In the afternoon we even managed to watch four humpback whales, so the humpbacks are still present in good numbers here in Skjálfandi Bay.
