Minkes and Humpbacks
After our successful day yesterday we went out again onboard “Náttfari” and set the course into the same area where we had been yesterday. It took us some time, but after a little while of searching we were rewarded with two minke whales. The minkes were unfortunately not really cooperative, but while waiting for one of them to surface again, we could already see the blow from a humpback whale a bit further south. So we decided to go for the humpback whale and as we got closer, it became clear that it was not only one, but at least three humpback whales feeding in the same area! We got some nice looks at them, one of them was a well-known individual that has been around here since July, but one of these three whales was also a “new” humpback whale, an individual that has not been seen here in Skjálfandi Bay before.
After some nice humpback whale watching we started to sail back towards Húsavík and due to the strong wind that was forecasted for the afternoon, we decided to cancel our tour at 13:30.
For tomorrow the weather looks better again, so hopefully we will be able to go out again in search for the whales.
