Baleen whale day
We left the harbour at 10:00 onboard “Náttfari” and started to cross the bay, sailing towards the north-western part, where the humpback whales have been feeding the last couple of days. The sea was very calm today and we had excellent whale watching conditions. As we reached the area, after about 45 minutes sailing from Húsavík, it didn’t take us long to find the first humpback whale and we soon realized that this whale was not alone: There were at least four more humpback whales in the area and we also got a very nice close-up look at a minke whale!
The afternoon tour was pretty similar: The sea was still calm and we managed to spot at least four (maybe even five) humpback whales as well as one minke whale (probably the same individual from the morning tour).
