Whales in beautiful autumn weather
We had amazing weather conditions today, it was an absolutely beautiful autumn day here in Húsavík: The sun was shining during both trips and we had almost no wind – perfect conditions for whale watching.
After sailing for about half an hour in a northwesterly direction, we spotted a powerful blow in the distance: A humpback whale! As we got closer, we soon realized that it was quite a big individual, and actually a whale that has not been photographed before here in Skjálfandi Bay. There was even a second humpback whale and also a minke whale in the same area and the big humpback whale (the one that we found first) came up with a mouth full of food right next to our boat several times.
On the second trip we found our new friend, the big humpback whale, again. But it had moved a lot: It was now about six miles further south than on the trip before, but again we got some really nice close-up encounters.
All in all, really nice whale watching in really nice weather today.
