Nice porpoises and a well-known humpback
The sea was almost as flat as a mirror when we headed out into Skjálfandi Bay this morning. Our first whale encounter today was a really nice group of four harbour porpoises, surfacing right next to the boat a few times. We got to see them very well, which is quite rare, as these small whales are usually rather hard to observe and disappear quickly.
We then headed further out and after searching for a little while, we managed to find a humpback whale. It was a well-known individual, that has already been here in the bay earlier this season and also last year and we got some nice close-up looks at the humpback.
While we were watching the humpback whale, the wind was picking up and when we were back in the harbour around 13:00, the wind was getting even stronger. So we decided to cancel the afternoon tour due to the strong wind.
But the forecast for tomorrow looks much better, and we will probably be able to go out again tomorrow morning.
