Fantastic whale watching!
We still enjoy very good whale watching conditions here in Skjálfandi Bay, with lots of whales yesterday and today:
Yesterday once more the baleen whales played the main role, and we saw several humpback and minke whales on both trips close up, including some nice humpbacks that were feeding at the surface.
Today we also encountered both humpback and minke whales, but on the morning tour we could also (again) add a third species to our list: Killer whales!!!
We were just in the middle of a humpback whale feeding party (there must have been at least six of them in the area), when all of a sudden two huge black dorsal fins appeared a bit further away: Two male killer whales – what a nice surprise! It could well be that these were the same two males that we had seen two days ago, we will try to find out by comparing the pictures of the dorsal fins with each other (it is possible to identify orcas by the shape and specific marks on the dorsal fin).
Amazing whale watching today with humpback whales, minke whales and killer whales in the morning and humpback whales and minke whales in the afternoon.
