Humpback whales simply everywhere!!!
Weather conditions could not have been better today! The sea was smooth as a mirror and the temperatures felt more like the Caribbean than Iceland.
We sailed out to search for the whales, but in fact it was not a hard job to find them: The whales seemed to be everywhere!
We spotted the blows of around 10 to 15 humpback whales and got some close encounters with at least some of them. It was simply amazing to see surfacing whales in almost any direction and it was hard to decide where to sail first! We also met some busy feeding minke whales, so there seems to be a lot of food in the bay. The heavily swollen glacier river Skjálfandafljót, which enters the bay in the southwest, may provide these good feeding conditions.
Summer weather and a bay full of whales – what else do you need? 😉
