Breaching humpback whales!
It was a bit cloudy when we sailed out today, but despite that, it turned out to be a fantastic day for whale watching! On our first tour we spotted some white beaked dolphins, a group of mothers with their calves. On this tour we also spotted four humpback whales and one of them breached twice right in front of the boat! On our 14:30 tour we spotted two humpback whales early on. One of them came up right next to the boat several times and then it circled around us really relaxed, and the water was so clear that we could see its whole body under the surfice and its white, huge flippers were really visable. As we were observing this great humpback whale we noticed a jumping one not that far away from the boat! Whitin a minute later another one came up jumping! We had two humpback whales jumping in front of us! They jumped several times and it was just amazing to see the two of them jumping this close to each other. Later on we ran into a group of very playful white beaked dolphins. They were swimming along with the boat, really close to us, making the passangers very excited and happy! On our way back, when the passangers were enjoying the hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls that we serve on board, we spotted another breaching humpback whale! That one was quite close to Húsavík harbor and it jumped several times so everybody got great looks at it.
Three breaching humpback whales and a big group of playful dolphins in one tour! Doesn’t get much better. 🙂
