The day after the storm
Due to bad weather conditions we had to cancel our tours yesterday. But today the storm calmed down and the sea was quite flat again, although the swell still witnessed from the high waves yesterday. It is always very exciting to sail out into the bay after one day without whale watching – we had no idea, what to expect. Since most of the whale species are in these cold waters for there feeding season, their distribution depends on the availability of food. Consequently factors such as currents and of course also the wind influence the life in Skjálfandi Bay.
But we were lucky: In the middle of the bay we encountered two humpback whales. We know both of them already, they are in Skjálfandi Bay since several days and we got some really close looks at them. And the weather forecast for the next day seems to be very promising – the wind is supposed to calm down and hopefully we’ll have the chance to enjoy the sun again. Best prospects for wonderful whale watching tours!!! J
