Synchronized diving
The polar storm we had yesterday calmed down during the night, being replaced by a smooth southern breeze in the morning. It didn’t take long before we could sight our first blows, and we had many close looks at some humpback whales. At one moment, one of them was lying on its side and waving with its flipper. Then we found two inseparable humpback whales swimming close to each other, emerging frequently together. Before we sailed back to the harbour, they dived together simultaneously, giving us a perfectly synchronized swimming performance
On the second tour with a little more windswell, we first encountered a few harbour porpoises 2 nautical miles away from the harbour. A few time after, we could observe some humpback whales. As soon as one whale dived, another spout was to be seen a few hundred meters farther out. as far as our eyes could reach. One of the whale awas always raising its tail high into the air before going underwater. Another one rolled on its side and one tip of its fluke was exposed at the surface.
Although we had a hard time in finding the whales last week, and sometimes contented ourselves with only one, today was reminiscing of the gread days we had in june, when the boat was literally surrounded by blows, The proof that the season is far from being over yet and that this month of september promises to offer plenty of surprises for all our visitors.
