Lobtailing humpback whale

Today started a bit cloudy, but pretty soon the sky cleared and it was very calm and quite warm.

The humpback meeting went on! We encountered at least six humpback whales in the middle of Skjálfandi Bay. Some of them surfaced very close together. In the afternoon two humpback whales came very close to our boat and while diving under the boat we had the chance to see the whole body of the impressive animal under the surface of the clear water, which gave us an impression of the actual size of the whale.

But suddenly one of the humpback whales started lobtailing! It turned on its back and slapped with the mighty tail on the surface of the sea! What a great surprise. Hopefully these entertaining whales stay even longer in the bay!
